Fiona Hawke grew up in the beautiful Byng valley near Orange, with an enchanted childhood of animals, space and imagination. Without really being fully aware of it, Fiona has been interested in the physical arts as a means of self expression and self understanding since she was a child. Beginning with the disciplines of ballet and sport, then the performing arts, Feldenkrais Technique, aikido and yoga, Fiona has found the link between mind, body and spirit endlessly fascinating. After many years of 'dabbling' in yoga as a student, Fiona trained to become an Iyengar Yoga teacher under the guidance of Alan Good (Yoga Mandir, Canberra). She now holds a Level 1 Teaching Certificate issued by RIMYI and the Iyengar family. She has been teaching since 2009. Fiona loves sharing all aspects of the subject of yoga with adults and children alike. She has a particular passion for backbend asanas and pranayama (breath work).
Sharon L'Estrange joined the teaching team in April 2012. Sharon attained her Level 1 Certification in 2015. As a registered nurse, Sharon is interested in keeping our mature students mobile and healthy, using her knowledge of anatomy and physiology and applying it to teaching. She is valued by our students for her ability to problem solve, think outside the square and make yoga accessible for all levels of experience.
Kim Gilbank began her Iyengar Yoga journey in 2011 when she joined the Yoga Room community. In 2019 Kim decided to deepen her practice and the study of the art of Iyengar Yoga by commencing the teacher training course through Yoga Mandir in Canberra. Alan Goode oversaw her professional development and Kim continues to regularly attend workshops and training with him. In 2023 Kim became a Certified Level 1 teacher. In her classes Kim encourages a supportive learning environment, weaving together physical asanas and philosophical themes to support the practice of yoga. Kim attributes her yoga journey with giving her the tools to focus on her personal growth as well as improved health and fitness.
