Iyengar Yoga Australia Convention May 2020

I encourage all students to look at attending the Iyengar Yoga Convention next year on the Sunshine Coast.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet yoga students from all around Australia and to attend classes with Iyengar’s granddaughter Abhi.   Here is the link:  https://iyengaryoga.asn.au/abhijata2020/.   If you are looking to share accommodation with another student from The Yoga Room, I will place a list on the table so you can communicate to organise a room mate.

Weekend Workshop Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November 2019

Participating in a weekend workshop gives us time to meet on the mat and look at the practice of yoga at a deeper level.  There is a freedom in this expanded format to explore what is possible and to take the time to look more closely at the obstacles we may face in our practice.  We are all subject to conditioning.  We all have a story and we are all distracted to some degree by our internal dialogue, some of which is negative and limiting.  A workshop presents an opportunity to observe our limiting beliefs and to experience new possibilities.  Join me!  All levels welcome.

Term 4 - What's happening in this busy term - Led Practice, Workshops and more

Welcome back to Term 4

Welcome back to the final term of 2019.  We are on the countdown to Christmas and all that goes with it.  It will get busy and silly, and time will become precious.   It is essential NOW to make that commitment to come to your class(es) each week, to Led Practice on a Saturday morning, no matter what is going on in your life.  Make time to come onto the mat, let go of the hype and demandsand carve out some space for yourself.  This commitment to your yoga practice will, in turn, give back to you in ways that are worth the effort.  It's not too late to join for the term if you haven't yet enrolled!

Led Practice

Every Saturday morning from 7.00am til 8.30am, whatever the weather, two teachers (or a Level 2 student) give up their time to open up The Yoga Room and lead a sequence for students to follow.  As a student at Led Practice you don’t have to think about what to do, timings, finding a space or equipment.  All you need to do is come along and practice. Any student can attend Led Practice once they have a working knowledge of the basic poses.  To encourage students to attend and find their feet on the mat, I am offering free Led Practice to students who enrol for two classes per week.  The only stipulation at Led Practice is that students practice sensibly and to their individual capacity.  If you enrol for one class per week, then 10 sessions will cost $100 and 5 sessions $65, which you can pay on line when you pay your term fees or pay cash to your teacher.   If you wish to attend casually, you pay $15 to the teacher/Leader on the day.  But wait, there's one more bonus.  Unless all teachers are away at the one time, Led Practice continues through school holidays. This means you have 12 weeks to claim your 10 or 5 weeks of Led Practice.  Wiggle room is always a bonus.  So come along and join the group and start the weekend feeling energised and clear headed.  There's still time to join.

Weekend Workshop Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November

Join me to deepen your understanding of the practice of Yoga.

Workshops allow us to look in more details at certain aspects of our yoga practice.  We have time to contemplate, study detail and cultivate a deeper understanding of yoga asana, pranayama and philosophy.  Building knowledge gives confidence and allows us to become strong, independent yoga practitioners.  Whether you are a beginner or an experienced student, this workshop is suitable for you, so join me!

It is so important to take time out of our busy lives to create a space to sit with ourselves and cultivate the practice of stillness and observation.  The Relax and Restore class centres around these concepts.  By practising asanas that quieten the nervous system, we can bring harmony across the physical, mental and emotional sheaths.  The result is a feeling of being grounded yet energised.   Life looks and feels a little lighter when we take the time to practice these asanas.

Suitable for all students of all levels.  Cost $23

Neck and Shoulder Class Thursday  10 October 5.45pm-7.45pm

PLEASE READ: Staff Absences Term 3 - change to Monday 6pm and Thursday 9.30am classes

I am taking leave from Thursday 12 September until Friday 4 October.  Covering classes wouldn't normally present a problem except that Steph and Sharon will be on retreat in Varanasi for some of this period.   Instead of cancelling classes, a Level 2 student has volunteered to conduct a Led Practice sequence in the Monday 6pm Level 2 class on 16 and 23 September and the Thursday 9.30am class on 12, 19 and 26 September.  This will only concern the students of these two classes unless you are planning to do a 'make up' class in either of these two.  If you are unfamiliar with Led Practice then I suggest you use another class for a make up this term.  Talk to me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your understanding.

Home Practice Workshop Saturday 3 Aug 1.00-4.00pm

Create a habit that serves you

Coming to class is the first step on the yoga journey. Attending Led Practice (Saturdays 7.00-8.30am) is practising yoga with the support of a group and a fellow student or teacher leading the poses. This is another milestone.
When you take the step towards Home Practice - that is a major achievement!  It gives you the tools to create a space to come to when everything is going well, and when the world throws you a curve ball. Creating a regular Home Practice in your life supports the physical body as well as teaching you resilience, tenacity and the ability to stay strong in the face of adversity. It gives you the skills to stay true to yourself when everything around you shifts. The value of learning to create your own Home Practice is immeasurable. It's not rocket science but it does take a little commitment.
Join me tomorrow to learn how simple starting a Home Practice actually is. You will be thankful for the rest of your yoga journey.  Students of all levels welcome.
