Classes this Week

'Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.'

Rumi

Although it's great to take a break, two weeks without practising Yoga is quite a long time.  Once Yoga has seeped into your muscles, bones and psyche, it becomes part of your life.  Although it is often tough to make time for ourselves, to have a regular yoga practice is essential on so many levels.

Firstly, it is the mother of all self care options.  Yes, it's hard work. Yes, you may have to get up early to practice.  Yes, you may have to take time out of your home and work life to come to class each week.  But there is no denying the feeling of being grounded, energised and ready to go back to the busy lives we have, at the end of a class or a practice.  The world is the same, but there is a shift in the way we see the world.  Our perspective changes

Yoga gives us a fit and healthy body.  However, it's the effect on our mind that is most interesting.  There is a lot of talk about mindfulness at the moment but yoga was around long before mindfulness became a concept.  Yoga teaches us to be in the present, to observe ourselves and ultimately the behaviour of the mind, which is usually pretty crazy for most of us.  It is an opportunity to show up and learn about ourselves.  If you want to change your life (or even the world), change yourself first and others around you will start to change.  Yoga is a great tool for this.  When students start to practice regularly, when they show up to class each week and practice a little at home, they often make healthier choices about food, time management or any number of issues.  I'm not claiming you can change the world, or morph into another person, that would be really crazy.  But we can sit with ourselves and really notice what's going on when we practice.  When we invest time in this way, we will see the changes within us.  Small ones that may go unnoticed initially, but keep coming to class or getting on the mat at home, and you will see the shift at some point in time.  That's what keeps us all practising yoga, no matter what our age, ability or circumstances.  Yoga presents us with possibilities to change, to let go of the past and enter a new space in our lives.

So what are you waiting for?  Get on your mat or get to a class in the holiday break.

Term 1 2024 Timetable

Welcome to a new year of yoga!  Term 1 is an 11 week term and starts on Monday 29 January.  Please note there are no classes in the week commencing Monday 22 April due to teachers undertaking Professional Development in Canberra.

We have a great year planned and I am working on locking in some workshops with guest teachers, as well as the usual workshops I teach in the studio on a regular basis.  Here is an outline of what's to come:

  • Lulu Bull is returning for a weekend workshop in September/October;
  • We are planning to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June with a class, soup and a film night;
  • We are holding Yoga classes for Children and Young Adults on the second Saturday of each month starting on 10 February at 9.30am;
  • I will teach the Home Practice Workshop on Saturday 24 February from 2.00-5.00pm;
  • Fiona is again teaching an 8 week Pranayama Practice session each Friday at 6.45am from 2 February, in the studio and online;
  • and lots more.

We are a small studio and offer high quality classes with attention to detail.  We focus on teaching our students in a wholistic and comprehensive manner.  We can only continue to offer this high standard of classes and workshops with your support.  We look forward to teaching you again in 2024 to support your yoga practice and overall health and wellbeing.

Intensive

Friday 19, Saturday 20, Sunday 21, and Monday 22 January 2024

I love, love, love teaching the Intensive each year.  The New Year is an opportunity to start with a clean slate, to set goals and to move forward in a way that's free of the past.  There is a freshness and a lightness to the New Year which is well suited to the mindset of Intensives.  Intensives are designed to focus your awareness on your yoga practice in a way that you wouldn't necessarily do by simply coming to class each week.  We can look more deeply into different aspects of asana and pranayama as well as restorative asanas.  It can give students clarity and insight into their practice and allows us to start the New Year with energy and positivity.  The Intensive is open to all students who have a solid foundation in basic standing poses, shoulder stand and halasana.  As numbers are limited, priority will be given to students who attend all 7 sessions.  There are options for 5 and 6 sessions but it is preferable to do the whole Intensive.   I will consider taking 4 session bookings if we have places available closer to the time.

Dates and Times:

Friday 19 January - 6.00-7.30pm
Saturday 20 January - 8.30-10.30am and 4.00-5.30pm

Monday 6.30-8.00am and 6.00-7.30pm.

Investment

6 sessions - $260.00
5 sessions - $240.00.
