Term 1 2024 Timetable

Welcome to a new year of yoga!  Term 1 is an 11 week term and starts on Monday 29 January.  Please note there are no classes in the week commencing Monday 22 April due to teachers undertaking Professional Development in Canberra.

We have a great year planned and I am working on locking in some workshops with guest teachers, as well as the usual workshops I teach in the studio on a regular basis.  Here is an outline of what's to come:

  • Lulu Bull is returning for a weekend workshop in September/October;
  • We are planning to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June with a class, soup and a film night;
  • We are holding Yoga classes for Children and Young Adults on the second Saturday of each month starting on 10 February at 9.30am;
  • I will teach the Home Practice Workshop on Saturday 24 February from 2.00-5.00pm;
  • Fiona is again teaching an 8 week Pranayama Practice session each Friday at 6.45am from 2 February, in the studio and online;
  • and lots more.

We are a small studio and offer high quality classes with attention to detail.  We focus on teaching our students in a wholistic and comprehensive manner.  We can only continue to offer this high standard of classes and workshops with your support.  We look forward to teaching you again in 2024 to support your yoga practice and overall health and wellbeing.

Intensive

Friday 19, Saturday 20, Sunday 21, and Monday 22 January 2024

I love, love, love teaching the Intensive each year.  The New Year is an opportunity to start with a clean slate, to set goals and to move forward in a way that's free of the past.  There is a freshness and a lightness to the New Year which is well suited to the mindset of Intensives.  Intensives are designed to focus your awareness on your yoga practice in a way that you wouldn't necessarily do by simply coming to class each week.  We can look more deeply into different aspects of asana and pranayama as well as restorative asanas.  It can give students clarity and insight into their practice and allows us to start the New Year with energy and positivity.  The Intensive is open to all students who have a solid foundation in basic standing poses, shoulder stand and halasana.  As numbers are limited, priority will be given to students who attend all 7 sessions.  There are options for 5 and 6 sessions but it is preferable to do the whole Intensive.   I will consider taking 4 session bookings if we have places available closer to the time.

Dates and Times:

Friday 19 January - 6.00-7.30pm
Saturday 20 January - 8.30-10.30am and 4.00-5.30pm
Sunday 21 January - 8.30-10.30am and 4.00-5.30pm
Monday 6.30-8.00am and 6.00-7.30pm.

Investment

7 sessions - $280.00
6 sessions - $260.00
5 sessions - $240.00.

Book all 7 sessions on the link below.  If you wish to book 5 or 6 sessions, please place your name on the list at the studio and pay a deposit of $50 which is nontransferable and nonrefundable.

Why have a Home Practice?

'Home Practice' means you start practising a little of what you have learnt in class in your own time at home.  There are many reasons to develop a home practice, and also many benefits.

Yoga is a practice-based form of learning.  We come to class each week and learn as a group.  Just like you need to train if you play a sport, ie football or netball,  in Yoga you need to train or practice during the week so that when you come to class, you can apply what you have practised.  This is the way we progress and develop our yoga practice.

Having a yoga practice requires a certain amount of discipline, there's no doubt. But what it really requires is consistency.  The act of stepping onto the mat once, twice or three times a week means you create a space from which to observe what is happening in your life, and your reactions to it.  To sit with sensations, emotions and whatever else rises up in the stillness of practice, is sometimes difficult.  If you remain curious instead of judgemental, you can create a space that is welcoming, familiar and almost like a haven.  It is a space for learning - some days things go well, and other days things are challenging.   Some days you need to do active asanas to work out tension, and other days you are so exhausted or anxious that restorative asanas are required to sooth the nerves and revitalise your energy.

The beauty of having a home practice is that you can practise what you need on the day.  Practice becomes a valuable part of your life where you can be still, learn, energise an recalibrate.  This first step to creating a home practice is knowledge, but then you have to apply the knowledge and step onto the mat.  In the workshop we look at obstacles to practice, how to prioritise practice and what to practice.  We look at categories of poses, how to sequence poses to gain different effects, how to enliven the body, and how to soothe the nervous system.  It is practical as well as looking at some basic theory. It is suitable for all levels and invaluable to all yoga practitioners.  If you would like to join me, please use the link below to book, or email me.  You will be very welcome.

Yoga for Children - Thursday 13 July

We love teaching yoga to children and it's a perfect school holiday activity that is fun and educational.  Through story and imagination the children will learn how to balance, focus, move with awareness and be still and relax.

This week we have two classes running at the studio:

3-6yrs 9.00am

7-12yrs 10.00am.

We would love to share these skills and have some fun with your children.  Use the booking link below or contact me with any questions.
