Balancings Workshop with Sharon Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 October

Sharon is teaching a balancing workshop next week over two evenings.  This is a unique opportunity to start looking at balancings in detail.  Whether you're a beginner or a student with more experience, come along and see what balancings are all about.  They are great for changing the way we think about what's possible and coordinating muscles in a way that creates stamina and strength.

BKS Iyengar writes:

'You must hold the balance by intelligence of the body - by instinct or the sense of equilibrium - and not by strength.  When you keep the balance by strength, it is physical action; when you keep it by intelligence of the body, it is relaxation in action.'

All students are welcome.

Christmas Class

Saturday 12 December 9.00am

Join us for our annual Christmas class on the deck overlooking the vines at Cargo Road Wines. It’s a lovely chance to come together, celebrate the festive season and enjoy a free class in a beautiful setting.

After class, stay for a cuppa and a chat with fellow students and our teachers. We’d love to celebrate with you.

Class:  9.00 - 10.00am (arrive at 8.45am)

Venue:  Cargo Road Wines, 1064 Cargo Rd, Lidster

Class is free and you can purchase a coffee or tea from the venue.

Please bring your mat, a block and a belt (or whatever you have).  A towel or blanket would be a good idea as well, incase it is cool.  If the weather is not sunny and suitable for outdoors yoga, we will head into the barrell shed for the class.

See you there to celebrate the conclusion of another great year of learning and practising yoga!

Home Practice Workshop

Build a home practice that works for you

Ever wondered how to sequence asanas to create a particular effect, or which poses to practise, and for how long? In our Home Practice Workshop, we’ll explore these questions and help you think more clearly about shaping a practice for yourself.

We’ll also look at common obstacles to practising at home and ways to work through them, so you can feel more confident making space for yoga in your everyday life.

When your consistently step onto the mat, it creates a habit that boosts all areas of your health.  It also creates a space for you to have time out from your busy life and to just 'be'.  Yoga is a self-study.  A home practice allows you to study the asanas, your mental and physical state, and gives you the time to re-calibrate.  It's like hitting a re-set button.  I think it is essential!

Join me on Saturday 14 November at 2.00pm, for this 3hr practical workshop, designed to help you create a yoga practice at home.  It will reinforce the work you do in class, and progress your learning along the yoga path.

All students are welcome to attend.  You will receive a set of notes to take home and refer to, as well as sequences to practice.

Investment is $50.  Use this link to book.

Studio Retreat with Tricia

I love the feeling of a clean slate and a fresh start.  This is what the New Year brings and I feel it's a wonderful time to begin laying down productive and healthy habits to build upon during the year ahead.  The  Studio Retreat is a unique way to spend time on the mat over a concentrated period of time.  Practising and observing the body, mind and breath sharpens our attention as we come into contact with the asanas daily.  As usual the morning sessions are dedicated to asana and the evening sessions to restoratives and pranayama.

Thursday 28 January 5.45 - 7.15 pm

Friday 29 January 6.30 - 8.00 am and 5.45- 7.15 pm

Saturday 30 January 8.00 - 10.00 am and 4.00 - 5.30 pm.

Two passes are available for the Studio Retreat:

A 10-Week Pranayama Journey with Fiona: Calm Your Nervous System

Pranayama

If you're looking to find peace and balance, breathing exercises might be exactly what you need. Our 10-week pranayama sessions with Fiona is designed to guide you through ancient yogic breathing techniques that calm your nervous system and help you feel more grounded.

Pranayama, the yogic practice of conscious breathing, is one of the most accessible and powerful tools for managing stress and anxiety.  I have found it essential for creating a clear steady, mind.  It does require time to practice, like all good things.  So make a start with Fiona each Friday morning.  Fiona will start with basics and give you clear instructions to practice and observe within yourself.

Why Calm Your Nervous System

When your nervous system is in overdrive, it affects everything—your sleep, your digestion, your mood, and your ability to focus. Pranayama activates your parasympathetic nervous system, often called your "rest and digest" response, helping you shift out of fight-or-flight mode and into a state of deep relaxation.

Over 10 weeks, you'll notice improvements in how you feel both on and off the mat, especially if you practice at home as well as coming into the studio.  Many students report better sleep, reduced anxiety, improved concentration, and a greater sense of calm in their daily lives.  Single sessions are also available.

Join Fiona

With Fiona's expert guidance and a manageable commitment of just 45 minutes per session, you'll discover how powerful your breath can be.  Students need to have a foundation in asana practice before commencing pranayama.  Talk to your teacher if you are interested in joining Fiona.  Book links below.
